The National Gallery of Zimbabwe, established by an Act of Parliament in 1952, operates under the National Gallery of Zimbabwe Act (Chapter 25:09) and the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act (Chapter 10:31). As an MDA, it functions independently from the government while remaining accountable to Parliament. The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts, and Recreation serves as its principal regulator.
The Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts, and Recreation, Honourable Kirsty Coventry, appoints the Board of Trustees for the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in consultation with the President and following the President’s directions. The Board must have between 5 and 11 members. Retired Justice Mafios Cheda has been appointed as Chair of the Board for a four-year term. Chelsea Evans has been appointed as Deputy Chairperson for a four-year term starting in 2021.
